For all its quiet roads, beautiful weather and a range of cycling routes catering for all abilities, Almería is still a well kept secret in the cycling world. Broomwagon Cycle Tours is offering weekly trips through January- March 2024 to this cycling haven. Once we’ve introduced you to this region, we can guarantee you won’t want to go anywhere else to ride.

We know many of you have missed out on overseas cycling holidays in the last 18 months and many of you are now looking forward to travelling and cycling overseas. If 2020 has taught us anything, it’s to take those trips abroad when you can and it’s safe to do so! Start next year off right with a Spanish winter training camp with Broomwagon.

Tour Details

For those that aren’t yet ready to fly, Mark will pick up you and your bike in the Broomwagon and drive you to Almería In Spain. If you wish to fly, then we can transfer your bike for you.

7 night package staying in the 4* hotel, Barcelo Cabo de Gato on a half board basis.

Rides will be tailored to the fitness and ability of the group. The wonderful thing about this region is that there is something for everyone. During your trip we can include a mix of rolling coastal routes, hilly routes and big days tackling massive Cat 1 or HC climbs like the Calar Alto. Rest days are always an option too!

The rides will be guided by Mark, who has great local knowledge of the region. On the Queen stage of your tour, there will be an option to have the Broomwagon supporting your group providing food, water and a picnic.

Nutrition is hugely important, especially on big days out on the bike. Each ride will include a cafe stop and a lunch stop to make sure everyone is well fuelled.

The Terrain

Almería has something for all levels of cyclist. With routes along the coast, through the Cabo de Gata Natural Park and also around the edge of the Tabernas desert, there is lots of diversity of scenery and a range of flat and more mountainous route options available. The area has a number of great climbs, including the Velefique, which featured in this year’s Vuelta and which many say resembles Alpe d’Huez, and Calar Alto which featured in the 2017 Spanish Grand Trou. It’s also one of the driest areas in Europe.
